You know, for one of my 2 businesses I advertise on a local, well, shopping channel here in Fl. It’s a mixed blessing. As you all know, my “day job” is computer consulting; I go to homes and businesses and fix PC’s, etc. It’s fairly lucrative, for the most part.

Then there’s the OTHER side of society.

See, most of the people are good, hard working people that don’t have any problems paying for most things, especially if it’s discounted. For my services I charge $100/hr, however, with this channel’s certificates I basically charge $60/hr. The certificate they purchase says “good for 1/2 hour of premium service, including diagnostic, and fix, if problems are small. Value: $40; no cash value”. I also charge a minimum of $10 for a fuel fee, as Jax is fucking HUGE, and it’s reasonable. I’m also a very nice guy and easy to deal/work with/for, for the most part!

Here’s 2 of the calls I got this week:
1) I got to this guy’s house on the OTHER SIDE OF TOWN whereupon he hands me the certificate and tells me that although his PC is slow that within a half hour I should be able to tell him what’s wrong SO HIS BROTHER CAN FIX IT!

I told him, “hell no, give me my $10 trip fee and I’m out of here, and when your brother messes it up, call me, and I’ll think about adding you back on my schedule.” He handed me $10 and off I went.

2) This other guy, a nice seeming guy in a wheelchair, had no video, and it was his motherboard, not his video. I even transferred his RAM to another computer that was failing because its RAM was bad. He gave me $30, it was 15 minutes over, I didn’t think anything bad about it, and off I went. I got a call from him today asking for the $30 back since I didn’t leave the video card. I told him that with the certificate, he’d still owe me money. 30min/free-15 min over (it was 21 actually)=$25 (again, I said this even though it should be $55, but I didn’t want to deal with it, I had cash-in-hand so he was getting a good deal. He then said “Ok, just mail me the $5.”.

Wait, WHAT?!?!?

Here’s what I’m going to do; get it in PENNIES, stuff an envelope with them and then leave a note inside with the pennies and 2 or 3 roll-sleeves saying: “Here’s your change, minus the charge for the envelope and shipping. Thank you for ‘using’ [my business name]. Have nice day!”

Ass hats!
